Thanks for the new interpretation of ESBS, as Evolved seeing Being seeing! A very nice reading, which shows the clear contrast between the continuous improvement model of “evolving self” and the already-arrived model of Being.
And I, too, have happy memories of Mt Rainier, from decades ago, rising in the morning mists of late Summer . . .

This little work inspired an Eastern thinker to pronounce, “Heidegger is the only Western Philosopher who not only intellectually understands but has intuitively grasped Taoist thought.” I think he would have liked Play as Being!

What paradoxes!

It can be comforting to hide in the dark and ignore what we fear or what we have been putting off. But when something does scare us in the night, it seems frightening beyond any sense of proportion.

When instead we face the daylight, we can at last see the mess we have created. Ugh! But we also see the beauty alongside it in proportion. The light can give us hope to deal with what we see.

And daylight brings another blessing too. There are the smiling faces of our friends who have been waiting to celebrate our return!

Thank you very much for sharing your personal situation and reactions with us. I was touched by your image of a web of intertwining roots supporting enormous trees. It strengthened my belief in the vision that we are collectively developing in our Play as Being group, of creating a forest as a community project. On one level, our forest will be purely virtual. But on another level, the emotions and interactions between all of us there are real. And I envision our forest to be able to play many roles, including offering places to grieve as well as to rejoice. And the image of intertwining roots will apply on many levels.

And there you finish with the crucial and apposite word: practice.

But I love this imagery of “leaves of a tightly bound book being loosened there was room to breathe among the various pages”. I had the vision of partially dry and brittle leaves of a tree previously pressed together and encasing the book like a cover, and them loosing as the breeze passed between them and they rattled together…

Perhaps they really are that kind of leaf, once vital and useful but now drying and soon-to-be dust. Fetters falling…
